Uppingham's economic and social success as a vibrant market town was the subject of a presentation at a national conference in Bristol this week. Uppingham Town Mayor Cllr David Ainslie and Uppingham First Director and Town Councillor Ron Simpson had been invited to address a National Association of Local Councils (NALC) event entitled  'Making Localism Work'.

The pair talked about the town's achievements and the challenges it has faced. Following their presentation they conducted a question and answer session with the audience on the town's aspirations for the future and the lessons that can be learned from the Uppingham experience.

Uppingham is the only Market Town in Rutland to hold 'quality' status and the General Power of Competence, allowing it additional powers.  Pictured is the town's heritage market place. Uppingham has this week won the 2014 East Midlands in Bloom competition. Last month it was announced that its Heritage Trail had won regional recognition and reached the national finals of the 2014 Towns Alive Awards.
