The Rotary Club of Uppingham and Uppingham in Bloom are to work in partnership to support the fight against polio. Both are to support The Big Bulb Plant on October 2nd in which groups of volunteers all around the UK will plant purple crocuses in an attempt to have a country wide display of the colour to celebrate Rotary Day on February 23rd 2011 and the international fight against polio. The Ruby Giant 'purple' crocus represents the dye colour dabbed on children's little 'pinkie' finger to indicate they have been immunised against polio in the few remaining parts of the globe where it persists. It is hoped a significant display of the colour will greet visitors to Uppingham in February. |
