altHousing for the under 35s was the subject of a recent workshop run by the Uppingham First Community Partnership.

Pictured is the preferred illustrative design for six to eight apartments, chosen by the invited under 35 year old workshop guests, for an old Orchard site off Seaton Road in Uppingham recently offered for the purpose.

altRutland County Council Leader Cllr Oliver Hemsley was the principal guest at the March 13th meeting of the Uppingham Business Forum where he had been invited to offer his thoughts on strengthening the working relationship between local businesses and Rutland County Council.

Taking place only a few days after International Women's Day, the meeting also provided the opportunity for local businesses to acknowledge the retirement of local trader and Uppingham business champion Kath Gilbert who is to cease trading following over 50 years in retailing.

Other agenda items at the Forum included a preview of the town's new Antiques, Arts, Books and Creative Crafts Trail, concern about a proposal to shrink the  number of shop frontages in Uppingham Town Centre and a presentation on the proposed Uppingham Virtual High Street Portal and smart phone app which aims to automatically detect the international or national location of future virtual visitors to the town and offer an audio visual welcome in an appropriate language via the Uppingham Webcam.
