New Uppingham Surgery Proposed PDF Print E-mail

In a move that enhances the sustainability of Uppingham as a vibrant market town, the local Primary Care Trust this week approved a proposal to relocate the Uppingham Surgery to the north side of town at Uppingham Gate. The Practice has been asked to consult patient groups on the move and pursue a minor re-routing of the local bus service so that it passes the new location.

Commenting on the proposal, Practice Manager Rob Lynch said, "The present buildings were not intended to house a modern doctor's surgery. Patient and disabled car parking is inadequate, access to the first floor is difficult and consulting rooms with their waiting areas are small. As the population of Uppingham grows these shortcomings are likely to become worse. The new site at the NFU building has the potential to be converted into a modern, fit for purpose facility. Specifically it could provide consulting and treatment rooms which meet Care Quality Commission standards, parking for patients, better waiting facilities and disabled access with a lift to the first floor".

It is anticipated that the move will take place toward the end of the year. The present buildings will be sold.

Neighbourhood Plan Workshops Well Attended PDF Print E-mail

Neighbourhood Plan Workshops mounted by the Uppingham First Community Partnership have been praised as informative and well organised. Over 60 people participated in the two 2hour workshops which were facilitated by members of the Partnership's N Plan Task Group led by Uppingham businessman and County Council Chairman Edward Baines.

Following  a welcome from Town Mayor Cllr Peter Rees and a short presentation on Neighbourhood Planning by Rutland County Council Senior Planning Officer Brett Culpin, attending residents engaged in small group discussions around the Plan's seven proposed themes. Ideas generated were documented for future consideration.

Earlier in the week, input for the Plan was received from pupils of Leighfield School. Two year groups were engaged in discussion by Task Group members Lucy Stephenson and Ron Simpson. The pair report lively exchanges with many perceptive observations from Uppingham's next generation of adults.
